The overall objective of the Solar Renewable Energy Experts Training and Certification Program was to promote the development of large-scale solar park projects to bridge the power generation gap in West African countries, notably by increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix and to stimulate the socio-economic development of the region, while ensuring environmental safeguards.

Background

Over the past ten years, the various benefits renewable energy (RE) technologies have increasingly captivated the interest of the international community. Understanding the availability and accessibility of renewable energy resources is crucial for the usage of the technologies that harness them. This course took participants through different renewable energy resources (sun, wind, and water) and focused on existing commercially-viable renewable energy technologies. Their suitability for different situations and in different parts of the world was evaluated. With this course, learners were introduced to different measures for integrating RE electricity sources into the grid.
