Given his active participation in the skill development programme, he kindly accepted to participate in an interview to share his experience and highlights of his time in the programme.

Joseph has not only collaborated actively with RENAC team to identify departmental training needs but also took part in an interview to share his experience in the skills development programme. From RENAC and BGFA we are happy to share the inputs of an expert skilled up by this programme to spread knowledge in solar off-grid projects!

Interview

Joseph shared that BGFA has been a step forward in order to cover the solar field capacity gaps in Uganda. Both the technical and soft skills trainings were very beneficial for all participants, particularly those with no prior training experience. And for participants that have already been trained before, it was still insightful both learning un unlearning important aspects about cross-cutting skills and technical expertise.

According to him, many organizations struggle with poor project management, which leads to unmet timelines, accountability issues, and stock availability problems. The business models and project and finance management trainings have been key to address these struggles. Thus, as mentioned by one of his fellows, the quality and management related training modules “opened her eyes”. Also, the training sessions led to a reduction in incoming customer inquiries, as the non-technical team was better equipped to answer some technical questions.

Furthermore, the E-Waste management training (a key component of the BGFA programme) it marked a before and after. Participants learned to implement what they learned in this course in order to deal with a huge problem in Uganda right now and led them to develop new efficient process and new business opportunities.

Last but not least, he liked to stress the importance of continuous learning and advised colleagues to focus on key takeaways from each training session of BGFA. This programme has been an important effort in the transition that is happening in Uganda with renewable projects and its professionalization!

We wish him an exciting journey within the upcoming trainings!
