Training Climate and Energy Transformation Experts for Tomorrow
Informed specialists and institutions play crucial roles in tackling global climate issues and shaping tomorrow’s energy systems. To foster international collaboration on how to domestically handle the energy transformation, Renewables Academy AG (RENAC), in cooperation with the Agora Energiewende, developed EnerTracks.
EnerTracks supports the people and institutions working in the field of energy transformation worldwide by offering three training paths:
- Fellowship programme
- Study tours and executive leadership training
- Self-paced online training
As part of the programme, participants learn directly from German Energiewende experts; participate in excursions and discussions with key German energy stakeholders; and receive online courses to enhance their expertise in climate and energy transition.
1. The Fellowship Programme
A group of four to six fellows are selected to come to theᅠAgora Energiewende office in Berlin, Germany.
- Over the course of six to eight weeks, the fellows have the opportunity to learn directly from Agora Energiewende experts.
- Fellows will better understand how organisations can shape the energy transformation narrative.
- Individuals with nationalities from eligible countries (list of eligible countries).
- Currently employed in the energy sector and related research organisations, non-governmental and not-for-profit organisations, civil society organisations, or in academia.
2. Study Tours and Executive Leadership Trainings
The virtual EnerTracks Study Tour was designed with the help of cutting-edge online facilitation tools. The study tour is based on a practice-orientated approach to enhancing and supporting the ability of participants to engage in thoughtful dialogue with energy policy stakeholders in their home countries.
A competitively-selected group of 12-18 individuals is invited to participate virtually in a series of:
- Tailored workshops, leadership training sessions, and group work to develop a decarbonisation roadmap.
- Over three weeks, this virtual training takes participants through a journey that is designed to be interactive and engaging.
Who can apply?
- Individuals with nationalities from eligible countries (list of eligible countries).
- Currently employed in the energy sector and related research organisations, non-governmental and not-for-profit organisations, civil society organisations, or in academia.
3. Online Training for Self-study
The online learning modules developed by the Renewables Academy AG (RENAC) offer participants the opportunity to delve into important topics in energy transformation at their own pace. These courses are designed to cover topics at different levels, providing a range of learning options from introductory to more advanced topics around the political, economic, and technical aspects related to the transformation of energy systems. This programme includes four modules and requires approximately 50 hours to learn the material and complete the assignments The programme qualifies participants who complete all four modules to be recognized as an Energy Transformation Expert.
- Individuals with nationalities from eligible countries (list of eligible countries).
- Employed in the energy sector and willing to work on decarbonisation and increasing the flexibility of the power system.
- If you are highly committed to tackling climate change issues and the energy transformation in your country, we encourage you to apply.
Online Training
Programme Details
The online training of the EnerTracks programme consists of four modules. Modules can be completed in the following ways:
- As part of a consecutive programme with participants completing modules 1 – 4;
- as modules are independent of each other, they can also be taken in nonsequential order; or
- participants can also opt to take less than four modules.
Overview of Module Topics:
- Module 1 provides a general introduction to power system transformation.
- Module 2 covers critical economic and political aspects of renewable energy.
- Module 3 investigates the technical facets of integrating renewable energy systems.
- Module 4 addresses new trends and their potential to shape future power systems.
Candidates will receive a certificate for each module completed. Candidates who successfully complete all four modules will receive an Energy Transformation Expert certificate.

Target Groups
- The online training programme is designed for individuals with nationalities from eligible countries who are employed in the energy sector and who are willing to work on decarbonisation of the power system.
- Applicants from both the public and private sectors are welcome to apply to join the programme.
- The programme language is English. Participants should have a functional level of English and feel comfortable reading and writing in this language.
- Applicants should apply online within the announced application periods and accept the terms of reference for the scholarship.

Participants will learn how to:
- Distinguish different types of power systems and their characteristics.
- Identify the suitability of political support mechanisms to meet specific targets.
- Evaluate technical challenges of integrating large shares of variable renewable energy to the grid.
- Assess the pros and cons of future trends in the power sector.
Online Training Methodology
The online training is designed for self-paced study. A series of virtual classroom sessions, short assignments, and forum discussions make the programme interactive and engaging.
Depending on individuals’ background knowledge, participants should expect to commit about 50 hours of their time to learning and coursework, which includes: reading and understanding the material, watching video lectures (both live and recorded), completing self-assessments to test understanding of materials covered., participating in the forum, and submitting short assignments.
