Promoting Solar Energy in Chile / DKTI

The sector of non-conventional renewable energy in Chile was experiencing a significant growth, particularly in the case of photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP). In 2014, an analysis of the technical capabilities in solar energy was conducted in order to develop a concept for a training center for large-scale PV systems and CSP. One of the conclusions of the report was that local professionals and technicians have little experience. In order to deal with the lack of local skilled experts that can install and maintain PV facilities, the GIZ commissioned RENAC to implement and evaluate a Train-the-Trainer (TtT) course for solar technicians on the installation and maintenance of ground-mounted PV systems at the Centre for Energy Development Antofagasta – CDEA Antofagasta, Chile. An additional aim was to also provide training materials and hold a first course for the installers together with the newly trained trainers.
