The grid-connected rooftop PV (GRTPV) installation numbers lagged behind the goals set by the Indian government. Additionally, a recent study showed that low-quality installations played a major role in underperforming GRTPV systems. The Suryamitra (“solar installers”) skilling initiative was intended to improve the availability of qualified solar PV installers.
The private sector still perceived in-house qualification of their staff more as a cost factor than a viable investment into the future of their business.
