PREEEP was a program implemented on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) that supported the Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in the areas of energy policy, rural electrification, improvement of market structures in the energy sector, and energy efficiency. The main rationale of this assignment was to support the development of a skilled workforce via practical, needs-based vocational training to boost RE/EE market growth capable of meeting growing energy needs among residential, commercial, and (small-scale) industrial energy users, particularly in underserved rural and peri-urban areas of Northern Uganda, thereby contributing to both the professionalization of the RE/EE sector and increased electrification rates.

Background

Photovoltaic (PV) technologies offer many opportunities to support a safe, reliable, and sustainable power supply in Iraq. The favorable climatic conditions in Iraq support the expansion of photovoltaics to harness solar energy. PV technologies in Iraq have been found to have the potential to: Drive job expansion, promote diversification and development of the private sector, address the imbalance between electricity supply and demand, and promote energy efficiency activities.
Sustainable market development for PV technologies required steady and balanced demand growth combined with reliable and high-quality supply from private sector companies along the PV value chain (system design, project development, wholesale, installation, and operation and maintenance companies). PV applications in off-grid, grid-connected, or hybrid systems require qualified personnel covering a wide range of educational and professional profiles, including sales professionals, engineers, technicians, and installers.

Target groups

Individuals and professionals currently working in private sector companies covering the entire value chain of solar PV projects were invited to participate. Engineers, technicians, and sales engineers who wanted to be trained in solar PV applications, including off-grid, grid-connected, and hybrid PV systems were also invited to participate.

The sector of non-conventional renewable energy in Chile was experiencing a significant growth, particularly in the case of photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP). In 2014, an analysis of the technical capabilities in solar energy was conducted in order to develop a concept for a training center for large-scale PV systems and CSP. One of the conclusions of the report was that local professionals and technicians have little experience. In order to deal with the lack of local skilled experts that can install and maintain PV facilities, the GIZ commissioned RENAC to implement and evaluate a Train-the-Trainer (TtT) course for solar technicians on the installation and maintenance of ground-mounted PV systems at the Centre for Energy Development Antofagasta – CDEA Antofagasta, Chile. An additional aim was to also provide training materials and hold a first course for the installers together with the newly trained trainers.

Background

Global demand for green hydrogen and its derivatives has grown rapidly. Completing the e-learning programme, Green Hydrogen Economics and Project Development, enabled participants to understand the complex economic and project development aspects of this key element in the transition to a low-carbon future.

Target groups

An employee of a company that develops projects involving cutting-edge technologies, such as production of hydrogen using electrolysers. An employee of a bank, insurance company, or financial institution seeking to evaluate the financial aspects of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and fuel cell power stations. An employee of a company that makes informed decisions regarding opportunities for production of green hydrogen using electrolysers, production of ammonia from green hydrogen, transport of hydrogen and ammonia, production of energy from green hydrogen via fuel cells.
